ISM Band
Time : 2023-03-10

ISM(Industrial Scientific Medical) Band,is defined by ITU-R (ITU Radiocommunication Sector), refers to Industrial, Scientific and Medical,Therefore, as the name implies, the ISM frequency band is that countries set aside a certain frequency band to be used by industrial, scientific and medical institutions.

Name: ISM band

Features: No authorization required

Regulations by ITU-R

Application filed: Industrial, Scientific, Medical.

ISM frequency band (Industrial Scientific Medical Band), as the name implies, the ISM frequency band is a certain frequency band that is allocated by various countries and is mainly open to industry, science and medicine Institutional use.

There is no license or fee required for the application of these frequency bands, and it is only necessary to comply with a certain transmission power (generally less than 1W) and not to cause interference to other frequency bands. The regulations on ISM frequency bands in different countries are not uniform. For example, there are three frequency bands 902-928 MHz, 2400-2484.5 MHz, and 5725-5850 MHz in the United States, while part of the 900 MHz frequency band in Europe is used for GSM communications.

The 2.4GHz is the common ISM frequency band of all countries. Therefore, wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11b/IEEE 802.11g), Bluetooth, ZigBee and other wireless networks can all work in the 2.4GHz frequency band.

Type A (footnote 5.138) = frequency bands are designated for ISM applications. The use of these frequency bands for ISM applications shall be subject to special authorization by the administration concerned, in agreement with other administrations whose radiocommunication services might be affected. In applying this provision, administrations shall have due regard to the latest relevant ITU-R Recommendations.

Type B (footnote 5.150) = frequency bands are also designated for ISM applications. Radiocommunication services operating within these bands must accept harmful interference which may be caused by these applications.

ITU RR, (Footnote 5.280) = In Germany, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia and Switzerland, the band 433.05-434.79 MHz (center frequency 433.92 MHz) is designated for ISM applications. Radio communication services of these countries operating within this band must accept harmful interference which may be caused by these applications.

The International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication Sector (English: ITU Radiocommunication Sector, abbreviated ITU-R) is the department responsible for radiocommunication management under the management of the International Telecommunication Union. Its management mainly includes radio frequency spectrum and satellite orbit, etc. Its business also includes maritime wireless Access and Search System (MARS), International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT), World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC), emergency radio communications, etc., and publish radio regulations (RR, Radio Regulations).
